East Denver houses span a century of plumbing
Park Hill and Montclair hold many homes built before World War II, with brick walls, deep basements and sewer laterals of clay or cast iron that have been in the ground for generations. Tree roots find the joints in clay pipe easily. When a lateral that old starts backing up, a camera inspection usually shows roots, offset joints or a belly where a section of pipe has settled into the soil.
Lowry and Central Park tell a different story. Lowry was built on the former Lowry Air Force Base, and Central Park on the old Stapleton airport land, so most houses there are much newer, with PEX supply and plastic drains. Their problems lean toward water heaters, pressure reducing valves, fixture leaks and the occasional bit of construction debris lodged in a young drain line.
Denver Water says homes built before 1951 are more likely to have lead service lines, and that overlaps with much of the older east side housing. Both cities sit on Front Range clay that swells and shrinks with moisture, and that movement slowly pulls apart old sewer joints. Your water provider can tell you what service line material is on record for your address before any digging starts.

Common calls
What east Denver homeowners call us about
Sewer Camera Inspection
Clay and cast iron laterals under older Park Hill and Montclair homes hide roots, cracks and sags. A camera run shows the exact problem and its depth before anyone talks about digging.

Mature trees, front walks and old driveways sit over many east Denver laterals. Lining or bursting the pipe can save the landscape that an open trench would tear up.

Older houses may still run on galvanized or lead service pipe. Replacing the buried line brings back pressure and removes an aging material from your drinking water.

Old cast iron branch drains under basement floors scale up inside and slow the laundry and floor drains. Cleaning restores flow and shows how much life the pipe has left.

Newer Lowry and Central Park homes usually have a pressure reducing valve at the main. When it fails, you notice banging pipes, dripping relief valves or weak showers.

Before you dig or renovate in east Denver

- Call Colorado 811 firstColorado law requires a call to 811 before digging so buried utilities get marked. That applies to fence posts and tree planting as much as to sewer work.
- Scope the lateral before you buyAn older east side home can look perfect upstairs and hide a broken sewer line underneath. A camera inspection before closing costs little next to a surprise excavation.
- Know where your floor drain goesIn older basements the floor drain is the lowest opening on the sewer, so it overflows first. Keep it clear and never stack storage boxes over it.
Questions
Plumbing questions from Denver
Do you handle plumbing in Park Hill and Montclair in Denver?
Yes. Those east Denver neighborhoods sit close to our Aurora office, and their older homes need the kind of sewer and supply line work we do every day. We start with a camera or a pressure test so you see the problem before you pay to fix it.
Is trenchless sewer repair an option for older Denver homes?
Often, yes. If the old lateral still holds its shape, lining can seal cracks and root entry points without a long trench across the yard. Badly collapsed or bellied pipe may still need excavation at that spot. The camera footage decides which method makes sense for your line.
Do you cover all of Denver or only the east side?
We focus on east and southeast Denver because those neighborhoods are closest to our office. If you live farther west or downtown, call anyway. We will tell you honestly what arrival window we can offer, and you can decide from there whether it works for you.
